Spend the season working as a nanny in resort

Working As A Nanny

To work as a nanny in a ski resort is a hugely, rewarding way to spend six months. Every week is different as every child is different. A typical day in a crèche would include organising arts and crafts, preparing a nutritious lunch then sledging in the afternoon.

You will be expected to organise a programme of indoor and outdoor activities, designed to keep children happy and well occupied. Private nanny ‘in chalet’ service, ski school ‘pick ups and ‘drop offs’ are also part of the service. Older children will likely be joining clubs with organised trips to the ice rink, bowling alley or swimming pool, leaving you with just the younger children to plan for.

Nannies need bags of energy, enthusiasm and imagination. They also need to be caring and sensitive. For some parents this could be the first time they have left their children in the care of others. They will need reassurance and good communication skills are crucial. Remember, childcare is a key part to the success of a family holiday. If the children are happy then the parents are happy.

How to get the job

After applying for the job, make sure you look at the company website and gain as much knowledge on the position as you can before your interview. Be enthusiastic, prove that you love spending time with children and have creative ideas for keeping children entertained. Most importantly, ask relevant questions.

Nannies do not necessarily need NNEB or CACHE qualifications or similar but if not must have suitable experience.

What's it like?

If you are unable to commit to the entire season there are also opportunities to come out and work during peak weeks (the busy school holidays) . This is a great way to have a ‘working’ holiday and gain some work experience. It's also a good way to decide if you want work a whole season the following year.

Being a nanny in a ski resort is hard work, challenging and demanding but is an amazing and rewarding life experience. To live in a beautiful place, the opportunity to ski, meet new people and make new friends. Great for your CV too!
